Open Location Code Compliant ParcelAtlas REBUILD Launched
March 10, 2023 Mill Valley, CA – ParcelAtlas is pleased to announce the completion of a total REBUILD of ParcelAtlas National Parcel Map service deployed on ArcGIS Online. This transformative venture is driven by relationships with Open Geospatial Consortium and the Department of Energy. Heretofore proprietary NPN lat long parcel centroids have been replaced with nonproprietary Plus Code parcel centroids generated by free open source, nonproprietary Open Location Code.
The reason for this transformative change is twofold:
- Going open source makes ParcelAtlas NPN Assignment Service more compliant with OGC international standard requirements. Free software is available for assigning NPNs to other datasets and parcel map services even without either a ParcelAtlas or ArcGIS Online Subscription.
- Being Plus Code centric makes NPN the long-awaited default parcel ID standard to partner with UBIDs [Universal Building ID], Department of Energy default Building ID standard. The process successfully applied to Manhattan is now ready to be applied anywhere in the entire nation as de facto [soon official] standard method for assigning Parcel IDs [NPN] to every Building ID [UBID] in which the UBID is located anywhere in the nation. The software is on the shelf ready to go for any willing Pilot Testers.
